Total Drummer

This drum lesson tackles the Funky Monster drum beat. Don't worry, that's not a famous beat that you should know. I made it up but it incorporates elements of some of my favourite drummers and the name just seemed apt.

It is a challenge with all four limbs being put to work with the left foot pedalling hi-hats, the right foot adding some oomph on the kick drum, the left hand playing a busy part with ghost notes and displaced accents and the right hand adding a Latin clave-esque cowbell part.

And if all that sounds too difficult fear not! This lesson breaks it down into really easy parts and then uses a system to bring it all together that I use for every tricky beat I learn.

It will take hard work but you will be able to play this groove and show your super funky side really soon....if you practice enough!
