Here we are breaking down the cross stick. This is also know as the rim click. It is an essential drum technique that many drummers overlook.

I believe that every drummer should know how to play a cross stick to a reasonable level. It can be used in the traditional drum roll sense but it can also be broken into smaller chunks and used in a very musical context within beats and fills so it's applicable to every style.
